Jill Elkins was born and raised in Smaland, Sweden, very close to the “Glass Capitol” of Sweden (Orrefors, Kosta Boda and many others).
Often, she would take trips there, either school field trips or with family and friends. Glass has always been a big fascination to Jill.
In August of 1998, she started her flameworking career on Hawaii, where she learned from the very talented glass artists at Maui Crystal in Lahaina, Maui.
The flow feeling of working hot glass had such an impact on Jill! She became addicted right away. In Sweden, she would draw portraits by requests from people and do some sculpting with clay. When she found the mesmerizing satisfaction of creating pieces in front of a flame, glass totally took over.
In 1999, she moved to the North Shore, Oahu and continued as an apprentice for Krista Woodward, another very talented artist, at Oceans in Glass, Haleiwa.
Jill met her husband on Maui and they were married in 1999. He is from Oregon and a rescue swimmer in the U. S. Coast Guard. His job has taken the family from Oahu to Traverse City and, today, they reside in Mobile, Alabama with their two children.
They continue to travel to Oregon, Sweden and other notable destinations.
